All About Therapy
Welcome to The Sunshine's Haven Counseling Center, a safe haven for a wide variety of concerns, issues and/or challenges. My name is Afiya K. Hooker and I am a Licensed Psychotherapist in the state of Alabama. My staff and I offer an inviting, therapeutic and confidential office that allows clients to process their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, while also gaining insight on how to effectively address presenting problems and concerns. Through the use of various counseling techniques and methods, our clients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with any of life’s challenging obstacles. My therapy sessions are designed to dissect issues and provide my clients with effective tools to bring about positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, behaviors and lives.
Since 2007 I have worked in the mental health field, providing quality services to suit the needs of my clients. The clients I serve may be experiencing feelings of depression, anger, distress and anxiety, as well as trauma related issues, behavioral dysfunction, familial/relationship concerns, or other diverse challenges. I have a passion for helping clients regain control, utilize positive and practical coping skills, and create positive change within their everyday lives. Allow me to help you on your journey by scheduling an appointment below today.
It is important to know that you are able to connect with your therapist. In this 30 minute session we will discuss the flow of therapy and begin to identify your needs, while reviewing potential methods that will help you in achieving your goals.
Family dynamics can be difficult to manage. Couples and family therapy allows for an unbiased and nonjudgmental safe space to process relationship and/or familial concerns.
Initial individual therapy sessions begin with an assessment and review of treatment plans and goals. In ongoing sessions, we will work together to solve presenting problems and improve positive thinking and behavior.
For some individuals, group therapy can be just as or even more effective than individual therapy. In group therapy, clients realize they are not alone and learn relate to others in healthier ways.
